Conall McDevitt MLA

Conall McDevitt is the SDLP MLA for South Belfast.

Conall is the Party's Health spokesperson, sitting on the Health committee as well as the Policing Board.

His political interests include sustainability, education, innovation and international development.

Born in Dublin he spent his formative years in Malaga, Spain. He was Director of Communications for the SDLP in Northern Ireland from 1996 to 1999 a time that included the negotiations running up to the Good Friday Agreement, subsequent referendum and Assembly elections. He served as a Special Adviser in the first Power Sharing Executive in the North of Ireland, advising the Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development.

He is a former Managing Director of Weber Shandwick and also a former Chairperson of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations.

Alasdair McDonnell MP MLA

Alasdair McDonnell MP

Alasdair McDonnell is MP and MLA for the SDLP in South Belfast.

Elected to the new Assembly in 1998, he then became MP for South Belfast in 2005, and was re-relected in 2010.

He is a Member of the Enterprise, Trade and Investment Committee and is the SDLP Economic and Business Affairs Spokesperson.

His special interests include countering educational underachievement particularly in disadvantaged areas, job creation, renewable energy and reconciliation on the island of Ireland.

Cllr Bernie Kelly

Cllr. Bernie Kelly

Bernie Kelly was elected as Councillor to represent the Balmoral area of South Belfast on Belfast City Council in May 2005.

Bernie sits on the Development Committee and Parks and Leisure Committee.

Bernie is a member of an all-Party Reference group on Older People which seeks to improve services for older people in the city. Bernie was elected as Deputy Lord Mayor in June 2007 for a year and enjoyed the privilege of representing people from all parts of Belfast.

A qualified social worker, Bernie is a Senior Manager in Belfast Health & Social Care Trust with responsibility for disability services.

Claire Hanna

Cllr. Claire Hanna

Though born in the Connemara Gaeltacht, Claire Hanna has lived in Balmoral for most of her life. Claire was elected on the first count to represent the area on Belfast City Council in May 2011.

Claire sits on the Town Planning Committee and the Strategic Resources Committe in Belfast City Council.

Claire is an active environmentalist and involved with local groups working to improve green infrastructure, promote renewable energy and improve sustainable transport.

As councillor, Claire's focus will be on promoting a genuinely shared future for everyone here, securing the best value for ratepayers, working for a cleaner, healthier environment and a strong local economy. She welcomes queries and case work from all Balmoral residents.

Anna McAlister

Anna completed a degree in English Literature and Politics at the University of Glasgow joined in the office in November 2008.

As Political Assistant, Anna assists Conall with business in the Assembly and at committee level, concentrating on Health.

Anna also provides secretarial assistance to the All Party Group on International Development which Conall is Chair in the Northern Ireland Assembly.

Michelle Byrne

Michelle completed a degree in Politics at Queen's University Belfast in July 2009 and joined the office in September 2009.

As Constituency Assistant, Michelle regularly liaises with constituents and deals with any issues reported in the South Belfast area.

Michelle also sits on the All Party Group on Ethnic Minority Communities on behalf of Conall as well as the South Belfast Roundtable. She joined the party in 2006 and became and active member of SDLP Youth and is previously a member of the Party Executive.

Michelle also ran in the 2010 General Election in the South Antrim Consituency for the Party.
